In a move to address potential flood threats in the upcoming monsoon season, the Rawalpindi district administration has enforced Section 144 to prevent the disposal of garbage into Nullah Leh.
Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema said the step is aimed at ensuring the thorough cleaning of the nullah and city drains before the monsoon rains begin.
During an emergency visit to Nullah Leh, the deputy commissioner, accompanied by Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Salim Ashraf, assessed the ongoing cleaning operations. The visitors reviewed the preparations for the anticipated flood situation during the monsoon season.
The deputy commissioner emphasised the urgency of completing the cleaning work of Nullah Leh before the onset of the monsoon rains.
He highlighted that special attention must be given to the cleaning of city drains and the low points of these drains, which are often prone to blockages and overflow during heavy rains.
To ensure the efficiency of these operations, all available resources, including heavy machinery, will be deployed, he said.
"Section 144 has been enforced around the drains, and strict action will be taken against those who violate this directive," said Deputy Commissioner Cheema.
This regulation prohibits activities that contribute to the drainage systems' clogging and pollution, particularly garbage disposal into Nullah Leh.
