Children among seven injured in gas explosion

RAWALPINDI:

At least seven people, including two children, were injured in a gas leakage blast in the Waris Khan area in Rawalpindi.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, aid workers provided first aid to the injured and shifted them to the hospital. Among the injured was a butcher who was busy slaughtering animals in the street.

He said the residents of Waris Khan were engaged in sacrificial activities after offering Eid prayers. A gas leakage in the street led to the gas spreading inside a house.

When the residents attempted to turn on a light, a loud explosion occurred.

The blast resulted in significant injuries to several individuals. The injured include two-year-old Amina Mohsin, her father Mohsin, five-year-old Ahmed Shafiq, Saqib Saleem, Fatima Saqib, Farooq Ahmed, and Faizan. The severity of their injuries ranges from 18 to 60 per cent burns.

Rescue officials confirmed that the injured also included butchers who were in the process of slaughtering sacrificial animals in the street at the time of the explosion.

After receiving first aid from Rescue 1122, the injured were transported to the hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the gas leakage and subsequent explosion is under investigation by the authorities.
