Kirsten cites ‘absence of unity’ as key factor in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup failure

Head coach stresses Pakistan's future selections will focus on players who value unity, fitness, and skills

News Desk June 17, 2024

Gary Kirsten, head coach of Pakistan's cricket team, announced a new direction for team selection, prioritising players who exhibit unity, fitness, and skill development.

Speaking after Pakistan's disappointing exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, Kirsten addressed the team candidly, expressing concerns over the players' fitness levels.

According to a local media report, Kirsten pointed out that the team's fitness did not meet the expected standards, a critical factor in their performance.

Kirsten further criticised the team's skill level, noting that they significantly lag behind international standards. He specifically mentioned a lack of clarity in shot selection despite the players' extensive match experience.

Another major issue Kirsten highlighted was the absence of unity within the team since he began his tenure. He observed a lack of mutual support among players, which he described as unparalleled in his career.

Kirsten made it clear that moving forward, only players who demonstrate improvements in fitness, skill, and teamwork will earn their place in the team. Those who fail to meet these standards will face exclusion, he concluded.
