The Rawalpindi police have filed a case against several Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers, including party leader Seemabia Tahir for protesting outside Adiala Jail, where former prime minister and party founder Imran Khan is currently incarcerated, Express News reported.
The case, filed under Section 144 of the Pakistan Penal Code, accuses the protesters of violating the law, resisting police, and damaging police uniforms.
Six PTI workers, including Aqeel Khan, Malik Bader Farhan, Zubair Hussain, Noman Tariq, Naveed Akhtar, and Maqsood Zafar, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Additionally, five other individuals, including Ahmed Hasan and Mubasher Kanju, have been named in the case, along with several others whose identities remain unknown.
PTI has been staging protests across the country, primarily against the alleged rigging in the February 8 general elections. The party has been demanding the restoration of their "stolen mandate" and the immediate release of party leaders, including the founding chairperson and Ex-PM Imran Khan, who has been confined in Adiala Jail since at least May 2023
On March 10, responding to Imran's call, the PTI staged protest demonstrations nationwide against alleged manipulation in general elections
However, in Punjab, where a PML-N-led coalition government recently assumed power, these protests were met with heavy-handed measures, resulting in the detention of scores of PTI workers and leaders, including Sardar Latif Khosa and Salman Akram Raja.
