LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has called for a ban on throwing animal waste in canals and drains on Eidul Azha.

Presiding over a meeting, she directed the authorities concerned to fully activate the provincial, divisional, district and tehsil level control rooms on the occasion.

Reviewing administrative and security arrangements for the occasion, she also urged action against illegal roasting of ‘Siri Paey’.

The chief minister was informed that staff would go from door to door in Lahore to pick up animal waste packed in biodegradable bags. The city streets will be washed, limed and sprayed with insecticides after the slaughter of sacrificial animals.

She was informed that animal sale points had been established at 294 places in the province.

"Drains and manholes will be protected against littering throughout Punjab," officials said.

The chief minister was also presented a report on security arrangements at 2,600 mosques and 900 Eidgahs in the province. She issued directives to ensure implementation of security SOPs, and said, "Wherever there is fear, increase security to ensure protection of people's lives and property.”

The chief minister also directed the officials to install fans at the worship places to beat the heat.

She said cameras should be installed for surveillance and walk-through gates for checking.

Swings and slides in parks should be checked regularly to ensure safety standards," she added.

She said, "Illegal use of loudspeakers and display of weapons should be banned.”

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, "Fool-proof arrangements should be made for the security of cattle markets and other bazaars. Cattle markets should be cleaned and sprayed; sheds and clean drinking water should be supplied there.”
