ISLAMABAD:

Islamabad Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Operations Syed Ali Raza on Friday said that the crime hotspots in the federal capital have been identified and a comprehensive strategy has been formulated to prevent crimes.

“I can assure you that in the next one to one and a half months, there will be a reduction in heinous crimes including theft and robbery,” he told a group of journalists.

The DIG was of the view that he himself considered to be a victim and felt pain whenever a citizen was robbed or deprived of valuables. Officials of police stations have wasted a lot of time and energy in dealing with cases of cheque dishonour and monetary transactions, but no police officer would visit the house of the accused in any such case and would listen to them with respect after inviting them to the police stations.

Raza said that the police made many respectable citizens fugitives from the court when they were not even aware of cases against them. “Now the police across the district have been strictly instructed to call the accused to the police station for legal formalities.”

Action would be taken against people, who visit Islamabad along with weapons, he said, this is unacceptable to commit crimes when there is sufficient police force deployed in the city’s police stations. He made it clear that the officials found negligent of their field duties to prevent crimes and arrest criminals would be dealt with an iron hand.

The DIG Operations said that his doors were open to listen to every citizen, adding he knew how to determine the innocent and the guilty.

“The crime graph has come down since June 10 which will further reduce,” Raza claimed and said that the accused, who have been released in the cases of theft and robbery, have been ordered to attend the respective police stations daily.
