Four workers electrocuted in well

Two others were critically injured, rushed to civil hospital

Four workers of public health engineering construction site near Chak 263 RB Cemetery, were electrocuted and drowned in a well on Thursday.

The workers were identified as 35-year-old guard Shafiq, 36-year-old Arsalan, 40-year-old Burhan, and 40-year-old Asghar.

The incident happened when an iron ladder in the well became electrified, causing the workers to fall in and drown.

Rescue 1122 personnel arrived and managed to retrieve six individuals from the well. Four of them were already deceased. Two others, including 30-year-old Rescue 1122 worker Nasser and 26-year-old Hamid, were critically injured and rushed to the civil hospital, where they are reported to be in critical condition.

Following the incident, police officials, including SP Iqbal Town Usman Munir Saifi, DSP Factory Area Rana Ataur Rehman and SHO Dijkot Shehzad Ahmed Bhatti, arrived at the scene.

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families after necessary formalities.

Grieving relatives of the deceased staged a protest at Lari Adda Chowk, placing the bodies on the road and demanding action against those responsible.

They accused the municipal committee officers of negligence for sending the workers into the well without proper safety equipment.

Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Nayar Sheikh, along with other police officers, reached the protest site and assured the protestors of swift action and justice. The Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dr Abid Khan has taken notice of the incident and instructed senior officers to investigate. He also sought a detailed report from CPO Faisalabad Kamran Adil.

The police said the workers were electrocuted due to a short circuit in the ladder, causing them to fall and drown.
