T20 World Cup 2024: Group A points table after Pakistan's victory against Canada
The Pakistan Cricket Team has finally opened its account in the T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating Canada by seven wickets
Pakistan had earlier won the toss and elected to field first against Canada at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, the same venue where the Green Shirts had lost to India on Sunday.
The Green Shirts' 107 runs in the second innings is the highest target successfully chased at the stadium.
Canada's opener Aaron Johnson was the only top order batsman to enter double digits scoring 52 runs off 44 deliveries. Kaleem Sana 13 (4) and Saad Bin Zafar 10 (21) wee the only other Canadian batsman to score in double digits.
Mohammad Haris and Mohammad Amir grabbed two wickets each while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah took one wicket each. The Pakistani bowlers were miserly with haris Rauf being the only bowler with an enonomy rate of more than six runs per over.
Pakistan chased the target cautiously and comfortably but did not appear to make any attempt to overtake the USA's NRR.
Canadian right-arm medium fast bowler Dilon Heyliger got opener Saim Ayub n the fifth over. Ayub playing his first match of the tournmanet scrored just six runs off 12 deliveries.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan held steady partnership before Heyliger got the Pakistan skipper's wicket in the fifteenth over. Azam scored 33 off 33 deliveries. At the loss of the second wicket Pakistan required 22 off 32 balls. Jeeermy Gordon got the wicket of Fakhar Zaman who scored 4 runs off scored 6 deliveries.
Usman Khan joined Rizwan on the crease as they finished the match with 15 balls to spare.
Pakistan now move one position up in the Group A points table replaciing Canada at third position.
