Miranda Derrick, known for her role in Netflix's gripping docuseries ‘Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult’, has revealed the severe negative impact the show’s release has had on her and her husband, James "BDash" Derrick.
In an emotional video, Derrick shared that the documentary has put their lives at risk.
"I know I don't normally make this kind of content. I just wanted to be transparent and a little vulnerable with you," Derrick began.
"Before this documentary, my husband and I felt safe. Now that this documentary is out, we feel like our lives have been put in danger.
We have both been followed in our cars, we have received hate mail, death threats, people have been sending us messages to commit suicide, and we've been stalked."
Derrick detailed disturbing threats they've received, including one where someone threatened, "If I see you on the street, I'm going to come and get you so you better get security." Another chilling message read, "If I see you walking on the sidewalk, I'm going to come and shove you in the trunk of my car."
The docuseries, which premiered last month, showcases Derrick and other young dancers who perform online, with some alleging that the management company 7M Films, led by a pastor from Los Angeles' Shekinah Church, exerted control over their lives.
According to CNN, 7M Films maintains that it operates separately from the church.
No charges have been filed, but the company has initiated a lawsuit for "defamation and trade libel against several former church members."
Derrick, who had previously been estranged from her family due to the influence of 7M Films, revealed that they had been privately working on mending their relationship.
However, the release of the documentary has strained these efforts. "I have been getting together with my family for the past couple of years, privately, to work on our relationship, to make things right, to mend what has been broken," she said.
"I've been loving getting together, laughing, just enjoying each other's company. And this documentary has made it very difficult to continue doing that."
Directed by Derek Doneen and produced by Dirty Robber and WV Alternative, the three-part series aims to "expose the diabolical tactics used by cult-like organizations to exert control over people, as well as the lengths families will go to keep their loved ones safe," according to Netflix.
