Shehbaz attends funeral of Captain Muhammad Faraz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday vowed to eradicate Pakistan's enemies during the funeral of Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas, who was martyred in a terrorist attack in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province the previous day.

On Sunday, the military's media wing, in a statement, said that an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on a vehicle of the security forces in Lakki Marwat, resulting in the martyrdom of seven soldiers.

Shaheed Captain Faraz Ilyas, 26 years old, belonged to the village Rai Kalan, Kasur, who laid down his life valiantly while performing his duties in Lakki Marwat.

The funeral prayer was also attended by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, IG Police Punjab and a number of senior military officers, civil authorities and residents.

The PM also met with the parents of Shaheed captain and expressed condolences.

He announced the transformation of the native village of the martyred officer into a model village and renamed it “Faraz Ilyas Shaheed”.

Also on X (formerly Twitter), the premier noted that he was deeply saddened by the martyrdom of Pak Army personnel including a captain in a targeted attack in District Lakki Marwat.

PM Shehbaz assured the nation of their commitment, stating, "We will completely eliminate the enemies of Pakistan. The blood of shaheed Captain Faraz Ilyas will not be in vain; his sacrifice will yield results."

The funeral follows an IED explosion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Lakki Marwat district, martyring seven soldiers, including the 26-year-old Captain Faraz Ilyas.

President Asif Ali Zardari had expressed grief over Shahadat of the security forces personnel in Lakki Marwat district. The president paid tribute to the martyred Jawans of the Pakistan Army and prayed for the high ranks of the departed souls, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release.

Zardari condemned the IED attack by the terrorists and reiterated the resolve of the entire nation to root out the cancer of terrorism. He said the nation would never forget the sacrifices of its sons and Shuhada and expressed condolences with the bereaved families.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep grief over the martyrdom of seven security personnel and reiterated the government’s resolve to continue fighting against terrorism till its complete elimination.

Shehbaz prayed for the bereaved families to bear the losses with equanimity, the Prime Minister Office Media Wing said in a press release. He added that the nation saluted the law-enforcement agencies for their services and unprecedented sacrifices and stood with the brave Jawans.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the IED explosion in Lakki Marwat and expressed deep sorrow and regret over the martyrdom of seven security personnel. He paid tributes to the sacrifices of the martyred security personnel, including Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas.
