An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on a vehicle of the Security Forces in Lakki Marwat District on Sunday, resulting in the martyrdom of seven soldiers, the military’s media wing said in a statement.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the fallen include Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas, 26, from Kasur District; Subedar Major Muhammad Nazir, 50, from Skardu District; Lance Naik Muhammad Anwar, 34, from Ghanchi District; Lance Naik Hussain Ali, 36, from Ghizer District; Sepoy Asad Ullah, 33, from Multan District; Sepoy Manzoor Hussain, 27, from Gilgit District; and Sepoy Rashid Mehmood, 31, from Rawalpindi District.

"Sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists present in the area, and perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice," the ISPR statement said.

President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of the security forces personnel. In a statement released by the President Secretariat Press Wing, he paid tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Pakistan Army and prayed for the elevation of their ranks in the hereafter. "The nation will never forget the sacrifices of its sons and Shuhada," he stated.

Condemning the terrorist attack, the President reiterated the nation's resolve to eradicate terrorism. "We are determined to root out the cancer of terrorism," he said.

President Zardari also extended his condolences to the bereaved families, offering prayers for them to bear their loss with strength and fortitude. "The valour and sacrifices of our Shaheed Jawans are a testament to their dedication and will always be remembered," he added.

The Security Forces of Pakistan remain resolute in their determination to eliminate the menace of terrorism. "Such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve," the ISPR statement added.
