Jensen Ackles returns to leading role in Prime Video's thriller 'Countdown'

Jensen Ackles, known for his long-running role as Dean Winchester in The CW's Supernatural, is returning to the lead role in Prime Video's upcoming thriller series, Countdown.

The 13-episode series, created by Chicago Fire producer Derek Haas, follows LAPD officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) who is recruited into a secret task force investigating a suspicious murder. As the team delves deeper, they uncover a more sinister plot threatening the city, forcing them to put aside personal differences and work together.

Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about working with Haas and Ackles, praising Haas' ability to create thrilling stories and Ackles' talent.

This marks Ackles' first leading role since Supernatural concluded in 2020 after a 15-season run. The actor has since appeared in guest roles on shows like The Boys and Tracker.

Supernatural, a beloved series about two brothers hunting supernatural creatures, holds a special place in Ackles' career. In a 2022 interview, he reminisced about the show's longevity and the joy he experienced working on it.
