Tensions have escalated in Chaman following an attack on Deputy Commissioner (DC) Raja Athar Abbas by members of the sit-in committee during negotiations. The incident occurred after key leaders of the sit-in were arrested, leading to unrest in the area. In response, a large number of people began a sit-in outside the DC office. The DC was unharmed in the attack. However, the members of the sit-in denied an attack on the DC.
Following the attack on the polio team in Chaman, the situation has grown increasingly tense. As a precaution, the administration has suspended mobile and internet services for two days. Markets, government offices and other businesses remain closed in Chaman, affecting daily life and economic activities.
According to the DC, the sit-in committee’s leadership had attacked him and ransacked his office and he had been saved by his bodyguards.
Among the arrested leaders are Sadiq Achakzai, Ghosullah, Bugai, Mustafa Agha Khan, Muladad, Baki Khan and Inayat. They have been shifted to Quetta.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under anti-terrorism laws against ten members of the sit-in committee for attacking Levies personnel. The complaint had been filed by the Station House Officer (SHO), Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) at the CTD police station.
