Netflix has announced the premiere date for its upcoming animated series “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.” The series, based on the renowned action-adventure video game franchise, will debut on October 10.
The storyline of the series continues from the “Survivor” trilogy of games, which includes “Tomb Raider,” “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider.” It follows protagonist Lara Croft, voiced by Hayley Atwell, as she embarks on perilous solo adventures after abandoning her friends. The plot intensifies when a powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor, prompting Lara to return home. Her pursuit of the thief, who has a personal connection to her, leads her on a global adventure and into ancient tombs, forcing her to confront her true self and define her heroism.
The cast also features Allen Maldonado and Earl Baylon, with Baylon reprising his role as Jonah Maiava from the game series.
“Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” is written and executive produced by Tasha Huo, known for “The Witcher: Blood Origin.” Other executive producers include Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, Jacob Robinson, Dallas Dickinson, Noah Hughes, Howard Bliss, and Jen Chambers. The series is produced by Legendary Television.
The original “Tomb Raider” video game, developed by Core Design and Aspyr, was released in 1996 on the Sega Saturn, selling over 2.5 million units by 1997. As of 2024, the franchise has expanded to include 20 games.
