Washington Commanders cuts Super Bowl champion after sexual assault allegations

NFL kicker, Brandon McManus, has been sacked by his team following allegations by two flight attendants.

After signing a lucrative free-agent deal with Washington in March, Brandon McManus, a former Super Bowl champion, has been released by the Commanders amidst allegations of sexual assault. 

According to People Magazine, the claims, detailed in a lawsuit filed last month in Duval County, Florida, were brought forward by two flight attendants.

Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II assert that during a privately booked flight to the United Kingdom on September 28, 2023, organized by the Jacksonville Jaguars, McManus, who was part of the team at the time, engaged in inappropriate behavior towards them, People Magazine reports.

According to the lawsuit, McManus allegedly repeatedly made unwanted advances towards Jane Doe I, including grinding on her, grabbing her, and attempting to kiss her without consent. Jane Doe II reported similar misconduct during the same flight. Both women are seeking unspecified damages.

McManus's attorney, Brett R. Gallaway, vehemently denied the allegations, branding them as "absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false." However, the Commanders chose to part ways with McManus without specifying the reason for the termination. In a previous statement, the team underscored their commitment to taking such allegations seriously.

Expressing disappointment with the team's decision, Gallaway emphasized their intention to vigorously defend McManus and clear his name through the legal process. 

McManus, who began his NFL career with the Denver Broncos in 2014 and played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023, signed a one-year, $3.6 million contract with the Commanders earlier this year for the 2024 season.
