The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday predicted a spell of dust-thunderstorm rain in the northern regions of the country from June 4 to June 7, offering respite from the ongoing heatwave.
According to the PMD, a shallow westerly wave is expected to enter the upper and central parts of Pakistan on Tuesday evening or night and will persist for the next three days.
This weather system is anticipated to bring rain-wind/thunderstorms across various regions, significantly lowering temperatures and alleviating the current sweltering conditions, it added.
Gilgit-Baltistan, including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar, along with Azad Jammu and Kashmir areas such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, are expected to experience rain-wind/thunderstorms from the evening or night of June 3 until June 8, with occasional breaks.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, duststorms and thunderstorms accompanied by rain are forecast for Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan, and Kurram from the evening or night of June 4 to June 8, also with intermittent gaps.
Punjab and Islamabad will see similar weather patterns, with duststorms and thunderstorms expected to bring rain to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali from June 4 to June 6.
Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Multan, and Layyah will experience these conditions from the evening or night of June 5 to June 7.
In Balochistan, Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Sherani, Kohlu, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, and Barkhan can expect duststorms and thunderstorms with isolated rain from the evening or night of June 5 to June 7.
Sindh regions including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, and Larkana are forecast to have duststorms and gusty winds with isolated rain-thunderstorms on June 6 and June 7.
The PMD has warned that duststorms, windstorms, and lightning could disrupt daily routines, damage standing crops, and affect structures such as electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels. Citizens and authorities are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid any adverse situations.
This weather shift is expected to significantly reduce the heatwave conditions currently affecting the country, providing much-needed relief to the public.
