Majid Gabol Advocate, Amar Dayo Advocate, and others have filed an application in the Sindh High Court seeking a judicial inquiry into the case of murder of journalist Nasrullah Gadani.
The petition states that journalist Nasrullah Gadani was shot at by unknown assailants riding motorcycles in Mirpur Mathelo area of Ghotki district on May 21, 2024.
When locals tried to extend help to Nasrullah Gadani, the assailants fired warning shots in the air preventing them from helping the injured journalist.
Later, Gadani was taken to THQ Hospital in Mirpur Mathelo, but in view of his critical condition, he was shifted to the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan where his condition deteriorated and then he was airlifted to a private hospital in Karachi. However, Nasrullah Gadani succumbed to his injuries.
The killing of Nasrullah Gadani is an open act of terrorism committed ‘as always’ by the influential landlords.
Gadani was a fearless voice for the oppressed, consistently speaking out against injustices perpetrated by the landlords and corrupt elements.
In 2020, Nasrullah Gadani was targeted by Shahbaz Lund for exposing the illegal protocol of a local MPA's son through a video. Gadani had filed a case against Shahbaz. Nasrullah Gadani was also detained under a fake MPO (Maintenance of Public Order). A case of target killing on Nasrullah Gadani was registered after seven days to make his murder case weak.
The petitioners and journalists community have demanded of the Sindh government to form a judicial commission comprising a High Court judge and honest and expert police officers to investigate the murder of Nasrullah Gadani. This commission should conduct a thorough inquiry into the May 21 incident and trace the killers and their supporter to bring them to book.
