Site Association of Industry (SAI) President Muhammad Kamran Arabi has called for the restoration of full power supply to industries following the Haroonabad grid fire.
The electricity supply to industries in Karachi’s SITE industrial area has gradually started to recover after being suspended for four days. However, 30% of industries remain without power, preventing the full restoration of activities.
As per a statement, the SAI president said on Thursday that the electricity supply to many industries was suspended due to a fire on Sunday evening, and the power has not been completely restored so far. “As a result, production activities were completely halted, leading to significant financial losses for the industries,” he said.
Owing to the continuous efforts of the SITE association, about 70% of the feeders had been restored by K-Electric (KE) as of Thursday evening. He urged for prompt actions to fully restore power to all affected industries. Meanwhile, poor electricity infrastructure such as pole-mounted transformers, cables, wires, main lines, and poor maintenance of grid stations of KE frequently causes problems for both domestic and commercial users in Karachi. Additionally, KE has made no preparation for the summer season where grid stations and PMTs are very often acting up and out of order.
