Troye Sivan's X-Rated on-stage antics spark debate during Lisbon tour kickoff

Australian singer Troye Sivan, 28, has ignited a fierce debate with his provocative on-stage performance during the opening night of his world tour at Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, Portugal, on Wednesday night. The tour, which showcases tracks from his latest record, began with a high-energy show that both thrilled and divided fans.

One of the most talked-about moments of the night occurred during Sivan's performance of "Got Me Started." In a choreographed routine, Sivan knelt on the floor while a dancer held a microphone in a suggestive position. Sivan sang the line, "Boy, can I be honest?" before reclaiming the microphone, a move that elicited strong reactions from the audience.

The controversial performance quickly became a hot topic on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). Reactions ranged from disapproval to enthusiastic support. Some users expressed their discomfort, with comments like, "Wtf is this" and "Troye Sivan singing into the mic in this position?!". Conversely, others praised the creativity and urged Sivan to maintain the routine throughout his tour, with comments such as "WAIT THIS ATE?!!!!", "Love it", and "If you don't do the get me started mic thing on the sweat tour I'm selling my ticket."

Sivan's tour will continue across Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States over the coming months. Upcoming performances are scheduled in cities including Stockholm, Warsaw, Berlin, and Amsterdam, followed by shows in Manchester, London, Glasgow, Dublin, and Birmingham. The tour will conclude with a series of performances in the United States starting in September.

In addition to his tour, Sivan has hinted at a potential collaboration with American singer Sabrina Carpenter. Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, he expressed his eagerness to work with Carpenter, stating, "I would do it in a heartbeat. She knows that I would do it in a heartbeat." Carpenter also expressed interest in working with Sivan, saying at the 2024 Met Gala, "I love him so much" and indicating that she would find a collaboration "so fun."

Sivan's previous collaborations include notable artists such as Ariana Grande and Charlie XCX, while Carpenter recently supported Taylor Swift on her global tour.

The reactions to Sivan's tour debut underscore the polarizing nature of his performance style, which continues to generate both acclaim and controversy among his fanbase.
