RAHIM YAR KHAN:

The new cardiac centre at Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan has become operational.

Dr Amjad Aziz, the focal person of the cardiac centre, informed The Express Tribune on Friday that the facility will be fully functional following its formal inauguration by the UAE Ambassador and the Punjab Chief Minister.

The centre achieved a significant milestone on May 21 when two open-heart surgeries—Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)—were successfully performed by cardiac surgeon Dr Naseem Ahmad Chaudhry and his team. Earlier, the cardiology team, led by Dr. Abdul Majid, head of the cardiac center, conducted nine angiographies and angioplasties.

This state-of-the-art cardiac center is a generous gift from the President of UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his family.

The project, completed in 14 months, began on December 31, 2022 and concluded on April 30, 2024.

Equipped with modern medical technology, the facility includes a Cath lab, a cardiac surgery operation room, a well-equipped CSSD, echocardiography machines, and stress ETT equipment. The total cost of the project is $13.65 million.

Key contributors to the project's advancement and successful completion include Principal SZMCH Dr Muhammad Saleem, former MS Dr Agha Toheed Ahmad Khan, and project focal person Dr Amjad Aziz.
