Charlie Puth felt a wave of emotions after discovering Taylor Swift mentioned him in her new album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.
Puth, 32, told Rolling Stone he received a call from a friend who had heard a leak of the album before its official release on April 19.
Initially, he thought it might be a joke or the work of artificial intelligence.
Upon realizing the shout-out on the album’s title track was real, Puth was in shock. He recalled thinking, “Wow. She said my name,” and added, “And I just cried, dude.”
In one of the tracks, Swift sings: “You smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate / We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.”
Puth premiered his new song, “Hero,” and publicly thanked Swift for inspiring him, writing on Instagram that her support made him realize he could not keep the song on his hard drive any longer.
Puth credits Swift with giving him the confidence to release new music, telling Rolling Stone that her mention provided him with newfound courage.
