Prince William donned a morning suit and top hat to host a garden party at Buckingham Palace on behalf of his father, King Charles on Tuesday.

Kate Middleton's absence, due to cancer treatment, saw Prince Charles inviting his cousins to help with hosting duties, including Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Peter Phillips, and Zara and Mike Tindall, People Magazine reports.

Notably absent were Lady Louise and James, Earl of Wessex, due to studies and age.

The royal family mingled with thousands of guests invited for their public service contributions, representing various patronages and projects.

According to People Magazine, despite the rain, umbrellas were out in force, reminiscent of the Queen's admission about weather worries during outdoor events.

Earlier events included a garden party hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla, attended by other royals.

Meanwhile, Princess Anne hosted the Not Forgotten Association Annual Garden Party, supporting wounded servicemen and women.

These gatherings, dating back to the 1860s, are a tradition for recognizing community service. Over 30,000 guests annually enjoy the royal gardens and partake in tea and cake while mingling with members of the royal family.
