Selena Gomez is basking in the afterglow of the Cannes Film Festival premiere of ‘Emilia Perez,’ a new Mexican cartel musical.

The actor, known for her openness about her personal struggles, expressed relief that the focus has shifted to her work.

“It's a relief,” Gomez said. “I'd rather somebody say I did a terrible job than talk about my personal life. So, I feel very proud,” she said, referencing the film's nine-minute standing ovation.

While acknowledging her role in the film, Gomez emphasized the collaborative effort, calling ‘Emilia Perez’ an “incredible masterpiece.”

The Jacques Audiard-directed film, also starring Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofia Gascon, is a contender for the prestigious Palme d'Or award.

As the most-followed woman on Instagram, with a staggering 428 million followers, Gomez is no stranger to intense public scrutiny.

Her openness about mental and physical health struggles, including lupus and bipolar disorder, has often fueled tabloid headlines.

This month, she told NBC's ‘Today’ show that limiting social media comments to friends is a way to establish boundaries.
