Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, found a special way to honour her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, during her recent trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry.

She wore a delicate diamond cross necklace, a gift from Harry, that once belonged to Diana. This gesture is one of many ways Meghan has paid tribute to Diana through fashion, as she also owns other pieces from the Princess of Wales' collection, including butterfly earrings and an aquamarine ring.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's visit to Nigeria followed in the footsteps of Harry's parents, King Charles and Princess Diana, who visited the country in 1990. Meghan even subtly echoed Diana's style from that trip with a gold collar necklace.

During a reception for military families in Abuja, Meghan wore the diamond cross necklace with a white strapless dress, allowing the sentimental piece to shine. At the event, she was warmly acknowledged for her Nigerian heritage, which she discovered through a genealogy test.

The three-day trip focused on the Invictus Games, a sporting event founded by Prince Harry for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel. The visit marked the couple's first international tour since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.

The itinerary included events in both Abuja and Lagos, concluding with a basketball clinic, a cultural reception, and a polo fundraiser. The visit to Lagos also echoed Princess Diana and King Charles' 1990 trip to the city.
