Jennette McCurdy releases audiobook after ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ spends 80 weeks as NYT bestseller

Jennette McCurdy is celebrating her book, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” being a New York Times bestseller for 80 weeks with a new audiobook version.

The book released in 2022 as a memoir, detailing McCurdy’s relationship with her abusive mother, Debra McCurdy, who passed away in 2013 after suffering from breast cancer.

The ex-Nickelodeon star posted a series of photos of herself on Instagram with balloons, confetti, and a light up sign of the number “80.”

“thank you so much for making igmmd a new york times bestseller for 80 weeks. and back as the #1 audiobook. insane !! appreciate you all,” she captioned the post.

McCurdy is known for her former role as Sam in the Nickelodeon series, “iCarly,” which she recalls as a traumatic experience in her book. 

The former actor briefly addresses her discomfort around showcreator Dan Schneider, who reportedly created a “toxic work environment” for children, according to the docuseries “Quiet on Set.”

McCurdy also opens up about her eating disorder in the book as well as her decision to leave acting, “Through writing, I feel power for maybe the first time in my life. I don’t have to say somebody else’s words. I can write my own. I can be myself for once.”

She continues, “Nobody’s watching. Nobody’s judging. Nobody’s weighing in. No casting directors or agents or managers or directors or Mom. Just me and the page. Writing is the opposite of performing to me. Performing feels inherently fake. Writing feels inherently real.”

“I’m Glad My Mom Died” received the Goodreads Choice Award for “Best Memoir & Autobiography” in 2022, with McCurdy making appearances on The Drew Barrymore Show, Good Morning America, and various other shows upon her memoir’s debut.
