MITHI:

The burgeoning population of Mithi has compounded issues related to drainage and urban flooding in the region.

Originally a modest settlement nestled in the Thar Desert, Mithi has evolved into the nucleus of the Tharparkar district, grappling with the repercussions of urbanisation, particularly flooding during the rainy season.

The District Disaster Management Committee convened a meeting in Mithi, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar, Abdul Haleem Jagerani, to assess preparedness for the impending monsoon season. Notably, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani was also present in the meeting as a distinguished guest.

During the session, MNA Malani underscored the criticality of monsoon rains for Tharparkar, stressing their pivotal role in sustaining the region's agriculture and livestock.

He also highlighted the potential risks associated with heavy rainfall, such as flash floods and fires, emphasising the imperative for all relevant departments to formulate robust contingency plans.

Responding to the concerns, the DC urged all officers to develop emergency protocols ahead of the monsoon season and submit them to the DC Office for streamlined coordination.

Furthermore, he instructed the health department to maintain heightened vigilance across hospitals, basic health units, and rural health centres, ensuring ample reserves of life-saving medications, including anti-venom for snake bites.

He emphasised the importance of preparedness among medical teams to swiftly address any emergencies that may arise.

SSP Tharparkar Shabir Sethar, ADC-I Tharparkar Asif Ali Kaskheli, and representatives from all relevant departments were present at the meeting.
