Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has landed his first major acting role in FX's upcoming horror series “Grotesquerie,” created by Ryan Murphy.
Kelce joins a cast that includes Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville, according to sources.
In a signature move for Murphy projects, minimal details about the plot and Kelce's character have been disclosed.
An audio teaser was released earlier in February, featuring a monologue by Nash-Bett’s character setting the tone for the series, “I don’t know when it started, I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s different now. There’s been a shift, like something’s opening up in the world — a kind of hole that descends into a nothingness.”
“Grotesquerie” is slated to premiere this fall, coinciding with the next NFL season where Kelce will be back on the field leading the Chiefs.
This marks Kelce's latest Hollywood endeavour, following his stint hosting “Saturday Night Live” in March 2023. He has also made appearances alongside his girlfriend, pop icon Taylor Swift, on the show.
Kelce has been vocal about his desire for an acting career and has actively pursued opportunities since signing with CAA talent agency.
Beyond the world of scripted television, Kelce previously hosted the reality dating series “Catching Kelce” in 2016, and recently signed on to host Amazon's game show “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?”
Currently, he co-hosts the podcast “New Heights” with his brother and has been an executive producer for the independent film “My Dead Friend Zoe” and the upcoming Basquiat documentary “King Pleasure.”
Murphy himself has a history of casting singers as actors. Lady Gaga, who like Kelce hosted “SNL” before landing a role, received an Oscar nomination for her leading performance in Murphy's “American Horror Story: Hotel.”
