Kendrick Lamar sparks hypocrisy debate over light-skinned fiancée after targeting Drake’s Blackness

Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s feud has sparked an online controversy involving Lamar's fiancée, Whitney Alford.

Lamar's recent diss track, “euphoria,” targeting Drake's mixed-race background, has prompted accusations of hypocrisy due to Alford's own light complexion.

The debate began after an Instagram user named Medusa Showoff called out Lamar for what she believed to be a “double standard.” Showoff claimed that Lamar should not question Drake's Blackness while being in a long-term relationship with Alford.

The debate quickly escalated online, with many coming to the Pulitzer honouree and his fiancée’s defence. Several users commented on class differences between Drake, who grew up in the Canadian suburbs, and Alford, who grew up in Compton.

One user also stated, “Kendrick wife never took a picture in Black face either. But go off,” referencing a photograph of Drake in blackface paint that resurfaced after it was mentioned in Pusha T’s 2018 song, “The Story of Adidon.”

Adding fuel to the fire, Drake himself referenced Alford in a previous diss track, and seemingly taunted Lamar with social media posts – including one where he wore a “Compton Community College” shirt, referencing the college Alford attended.

Lamar recently released a series of diss tracks targeting Drake, including “euphoria,” “meet the grahams,” “6:16 in LA,” and “Not Like Us.”
