Sharjeel offers financial assistance to journalist bodies
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon distributed cheques to journalist associations on the occasion of Press Freedom Day.
He presented the cheques of Rs5 million each to the leaders of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Karachi Union of Journalists, and Sukkur Union of Journalists.
The cheques were received by Lala Asad Pathan of PFUJ, Aijaz Ahmed and Aajiz Jamali of KUJ and Javed Jatoi of Sukkur Union of Journalists.
Additionally, the Sindh government gave a cheque of Rs20 million to the Sindh Parliamentary Reporters Association (SPRA). The leaders of journalist bodies expressed their gratitude to the senior minister.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Malir journalists, led by the President of Malir Press Club Hanif Soomro, called on the senior minister. Deputy Mayor of Karachi Salman Murad was also present in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharjeel expressed his pride in the efforts made for journalists on Press Freedom Day. He highlighted that the Sindh government has provided a cheque of Rs20 million to SPRA and Rs5.5 million to PFUJ, KUJ, and SUJ for the betterment of journalists.
Sharjeel emphasised that the Sindh government adheres to a policy of offering cooperation to resolve journalists' issues.
Secretary of Information Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, Director of Advertisement Muhammad Yousif Kabooro, senior journalist and PFUJ official Hassan Abbas, and others were also present at the meeting.
