“Line of Duty” and “Outlander” actor Brian McCardie passes away at 59

The actor had also recently appeared alongside Sean Bean in the BBC drama, “Time.”

Scottish actor Brian McCardie, known for his roles as Tommy Hunter in “Line of Duty” and Sir Marcus MacRannoch in “Outlander,” has died at 59. 

The news was confirmed by his sister Sarah on social media, who revealed he passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday.

“Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon. We love him and will miss him greatly; please remember Brian in your thoughts,” Sarah wrote on Instagram.

McCardie's career spanned decades, with notable appearances in historical dramas like Rob Roy and period pieces such as “The Damned United.” 

He recently appeared in BBC's “Time” and was in the process of filming the upcoming “Outlander” prequel “Blood of My Blood.” Tributes poured in from colleagues and admirers, with “Line of Duty” creator Jed Mercurio and executive producer Simon Heath highlighting McCardie's exceptional talent in a statement reported by BBC.

“Brian was an incredibly talented actor and the lasting impact he had as Tommy Hunter is testament to the power of his performance,” their statement read.

Described by BBC Scotland's Louise Thornton as a “talented, versatile actor,” McCardie’s death is mourned across the industry.
