SIC chief advises PTI to resign from assemblies

Hamid Raza says he will be the first to resign for Imran Khan's sake

ISLAMABAD:

Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza has once again advised the PTI to resign from the assemblies and take to the streets in protest.

Taking to the blogging website "X", Raza said if justice is not served to PTI founder Imran Khan in the coming weeks, then the party should not continue sitting in the assemblies.

He emphasized the need for PTI leadership to step down from the assemblies and consider taking their grievances to the streets. Raza made it clear that he would be the first person to resign from the National Assembly for the sake of Imran Khan.

In response to Raza’s statement, PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat said the party respects his advice and views it with appreciation. "But as far as resigning is concerned, I think it will be synonymous with fleeing from the political battlefield," he added.

Marwat stated that the PTI will have to fight and resist both inside and outside of parliament. "However, if this proposal comes before the party, we will consider it."

Speaking to the media in Parliament House, Marwat said he does not need the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). "If any member of our party needs the PAC chairmanship, then I am ready to give them the chance," he added.

PTI lawmakers had to contest the February 8 general elections as independents after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) stripped them of their election symbol. Later, these lawmakers joined the SIC.
