KARACHI:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh General Secretary, Waqar Mehdi, has unveiled plans for the construction of two 10-storey buildings at Civil Hospital Karachi to accommodate the increasing number of patients and expand treatment facilities.

Mehdi made this announcement during a press conference after laying the foundation stone for the building at the hospital premises on Saturday.

Mehdi said that Civil Hospital provides healthcare across Sindh, offering comprehensive treatment services for various diseases under one roof.

He reaffirmed the Sindh government's commitment to provide quality healthcare access for the residents without any discrimination.

Mehdi also criticised the previous caretaker government for neglecting healthcare institutions in Sindh and acknowledged the space shortage for patients at the hospital.

He reiterated the government's focus on upgrading healthcare facilities at other government hospitals and assured the hospital's management of addressing staff shortages.

Medical Sperintendent at Civil Hospital, Dr Khalid Bukhari expressed confidence in the facility’s management to meet patients’ demands.

He highlighted the provision of chemotherapy and thalassemia services with free medications and announced the establishment of a modern ICU centre with 50 beds, including a nursery for newborns, in collaboration with the Sindh Children's Authority.
