Man attempts suicide at Makkah’s Grand Mosque

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed yet, was rushed to hospital for medical care

A man attempted suicide on Tuesday morning by throwing himself into the courtyard of Makkah’s Grand Mosque, Khaleej Times reported.

According to security authorities, the incident occurred when the individual jumped from the upper floor of the Masjid Al Haram in Makkah. Upon impact, he sustained injuries and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The authorities of the Grand Mosque have launched an investigation into the case. However, details regarding the identity and nationality of the person have not yet been disclosed.

This isn't the first instance of attempted suicide within the mosque compound. In 2018, three separate incidents were reported, including one where an Iraqi pilgrim tragically took his own life by throwing himself from the elevated Holy Kaaba circumambulation area.

Hussain Hameed al Haidari, the Iraqi pilgrim, fell into the courtyard where worshippers were either circling the sacred edifice or engaged in prayer.

Similarly, in June of the same year, a Frenchman jumped off the mosque's roof, leading to his death in hospital.

Additionally, a Bangladeshi man committed suicide by leaping from the first floor into the Holy Kaaba circumambulation area, accidentally landing on a Sudanese man in his fifties who was praying, causing severe injuries.

In 2017, a Saudi Arabian man attempted to set himself on fire within the mosque premises but was thankfully prevented and rescued by security forces.
