ENTERTAINMENT DESK:

Amazon Prime Video is developing a television series set in the iconic universe of "Legally Blonde," as confirmed by Variety. Details about the plot are still under wraps, but the project will see Reese Witherspoon, star of the original films, stepping into the role of executive producer.

Joining her in the same capacity are Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who will also be handling the writing duties for the series.

This new venture is a collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, following Amazon's acquisition of MGM in 2022. The move is part of a broader strategy to create new content based on MGM's extensive catalog, which includes titles like “Barbershop” and “Robocop.” "Legally Blonde" is among the first of these projects to be announced.

Released in 2001, the first "Legally Blonde" film was a commercial hit, chronicling the journey of Elle Woods, played by Witherspoon, a fashion-savvy sorority girl who enrolls in Harvard Law School to win back her boyfriend, only to find her calling in the legal profession.

The movie's success led to a sequel in 2003, and a third direct-to-video installment in 2009, with Witherspoon taking on a producer role for the latter. The franchise also inspired a Broadway musical in 2007, which earned several Tony and Drama Desk nominations.

Schwartz and Savage, renowned for their work on the teen drama "Gossip Girl" and the series "The OC," will bring their expertise in youth and drama programming to the "Legally Blonde" TV series.
