In "Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire," amidst thunderous clashes between its iconic titans, a new character has emerged. Meet Suko, a tiny yet compelling addition to the Monsterverse with a backstory.

As a miniature counterpart to Kong, Suko brings a unique dynamic to the storyline, navigating a complex relationship with his renowned elder.

Despite his adorable appearance, Suko still embodies the ferocious essence of the monstrous inhabitants of the "Godzilla" and "Kong" franchises.

Director Adam Wingard recalled in an interview with IndieWire, that Suko's character was first discussed during the production of his previous film, "Godzilla vs. Kong." The idea was initially proposed by producer Mary Parent, who envisioned a potential "Son of Kong" narrative for the Monsterverse's future.

Though the idea initially puzzled everyone, Wingard held onto the concept, letting it develop over two years and revisiting the idea when work on "The New Empire'' began. He was intrigued by the prospect of Kong encountering his own kind in the depths of the Hollow Earth.

However, there were concerns with bringing a character like Suko to life.

Wingard also revealed that he wanted Suko to hold more dimension than just “be cute”, proceeding to compare Suko with Baby Yoda, “I like Baby Yoda, but mostly what he does is be cute. So I was like, ‘Well, I want the cuteness of Baby Yoda, but I want it to be Baby Yoda if Baby Yoda is going to bite your face off and eat your skin.”
