Zendaya's vision for "Euphoria" clashes with creator as season 3 falls into limbo

While Zendaya's input is valued, disagreements over script direction have stalled the third season.

HBO's hit series "Euphoria" is facing an uncertain future due to creative differences between star Zendaya and creator Sam Levinson among other issues. 

While the show's success is undeniable, finding a path forward is proving challenging.

Variety reports that Levinson's initial vision for Season 3, including a significant time jump, drew strong initial support from HBO. 

However, Zendaya, the Emmy-winning star, had concerns about the direction and offered significant input.

A creative force behind the show, Zendaya doesn't have script veto power but holds substantial influence as star and executive producer. 

Her feedback was reported as a major factor in Levinson's revisions.

However, HBO reportedly found the rewritten scripts lacking the show's signature tone. Zendaya herself had pitched storylines like a sober Rue becoming a surrogate, which were not well-received.

Following the success of season 2, HBO renegotiated salaries of the cast. But Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi have been earning significantly more in the film world. 

Sweeney is riding the success of her $217 million dollar hit “Anyone But You.” while Elordi’s acclaimed thriller "Saltburn" and role in Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" demonstrate their rising star power.   

The success of films like "Dune: Part Two" keeps Zendaya in high demand, potentially impacting her availability for "Euphoria." HBO is committed to finding a solution that satisfies both Zendaya and Levinson. 

Zendaya is also reportedly set to return for ‘Spiderman 4’ alongside her boyfriend Tom Holland. 

HBO and Levinson are exploring options, but a full third season hinges on resolving their creative differences.
