SARGODHA:

The regional police officer (RPO) has ordered an inquiry into the illegal promotion of police officers in the district.

According to trainee assistant sub-inspectors Zaighum Nisar, Nadeem, Fakhar Abbas, traffic police inspector Ghulam Jafir Cheena and Inspector Saifur Rehman, a written application was sent to the RPO Rao Sardar Ali Khan stating that the appointments of several ATSIs were forcibly accepted.

The RPO was told that several officials sent applications to the traffic police to complete a course but the establishment branch of the RPO office suddenly cancelled the course and promoted police officials without formal accreditation. On the other hand, ATSIs recruited on the same day were sent to district police to complete a departmental course and said they were illegally promoted to sub-inspector from grade 9 to 14 by ignoring the genuine seniority list. They demanded that the RPO Rao Sardar Ali Khan take action and re-issue a merit list for promotions.
