BEIJING:

The United States should take an objective and rational view of China's development, and match its words with actions to honor the commitments on China-US relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the country's annual legislative session, Wang said China-US relations bear on the well-being of the people of both countries, and the future of humanity and the world.

"Our position is the three principles proposed by President Xi Jinping -- mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation," Wang said.

Noting that peaceful coexistence is the baseline, Wang said conflict and confrontation between two major countries like China and the United States would have unimaginable consequences.

The US side's wrong perception of China still persists, and the commitments it made have not been truly fulfilled, Wang said, adding that the tactics employed by the US side to suppress China are constantly changing, its list of unilateral sanctions continues to lengthen, and its groundless accusations against China have reached an inconceivable level.

"If the United States says one thing and does another, where is its credibility as a major country? If it gets jittery whenever it hears the word 'China,' where is its confidence as a major country? If it only wants itself to prosper but denies other countries' legitimate development, where is international fairness? If it persistently monopolizes the high end of the value chain and keeps China at the low end, where is fairness in competition?" Wang said.

"The challenge for the United States comes from itself, not from China. If the United States is obsessed with suppressing China, it will eventually harm itself," he noted.

China is always willing to strengthen dialogue and communication with the United States, and believes that the two sides can certainly find a proper way for two different major countries to get along in this world, Wang added.

China supports Palestine in becoming full member of UN

China supports Palestine in becoming a full member of the United Nations (UN), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday.

Noting that the failure to end the humanitarian disaster caused by the Palestinian-Israeli conflict today in the 21st century is a tragedy for humanity and a disgrace for civilization, Wang called on the international community to act to give priority to an immediate ceasefire.

The foreign minister said the Palestinian people have the right to live in the world, calling for the release of all those held captive.

Restoring justice to the Palestinian people and fully implementing the two-state solution is the only way to break the vicious circle of Palestinian-Israeli conflicts, Wang said.

"We support Palestine's full membership in the UN, and urge certain UN Security Council member to stop laying obstacles to that end," Wang said, adding that China calls for a more broad-based, more authoritative, and more effective international peace conference to work out a timetable and road map for the two-state solution.

Chinese FM urges early negotiations on Ukraine crisis

All conflicts have to end at the negotiating table and the earlier the talks start, the sooner peace will arrive, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday over the Ukraine crisis.

"All our efforts point to one goal, that is, to pave the way for ending the conflict and starting peace talks," Wang told a press conference held on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the national legislature.

China supports the holding in due course of an international peace conference that is recognized by both Russia and Ukraine and ensures the equal participation of all parties and fair discussions on all peace plans, he said.

China to firmly be force for peace, stability, progress

Faced with the complex and volatile international environment, China will firmly be a force for peace, stability and progress in the world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday.

Currently, the world landscape is undergoing profound changes, and human society is facing multiple challenges, Wang said at a press conference on the sidelines of the second session of the 14th National People's Congress.

China will stand firmly on the right side of history and on the side of human progress, Wang said.

Dedicated to peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit, China will strive to safeguard world peace and development as it pursues its own development, and it will make greater contributions to world peace and development through its own development, he noted.
