Peshawar experiences worst traffic jam

PESHAWAR:

The provincial metropolis Peshawar on Wednesday experienced a five-hour complete traffic jam as Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers blocked roads in three different parts of the city as a protest against alleged polls rigging.

Police said that the protesters blocked Ring Road as a sit-in was organized at Jamil Chowk. Similarly, Hayatabad Phase III Chowk and Pir Zakor Flyover also saw large protest and sit-ins as a result traffic across the district came to a standstill.

This created a lot many difficulties for the general public as even ambulances were not allowed by protesters to pass through.

Local residents lamented that the traffic police failed to divert traffic to alternate routes neither police was able to take action against the PTI workers who have been protesting for the past seven days in the city on a daily basis.

They said that the people of Peshawar in most cases voted for the PTI-backed independent candidates and yet they have been rewarded by means of frequent road blockades by them on a daily basis since the election day on February 8.

They demanded of the district administration to take notice of the protests and allocate a space to these protesters.
