Workshop discusses food security in K-P

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) organized a workshop for agricultural experts and its own officials working on food security and the improvement of livelihood opportunities, with the support of USAID and JICA in Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand and Khyber.

Addressing the event, FAO Khyber Pakhtunkhwa head Farrukh Tayrov said that his organization would train the participants on sowing good crops and also provide them access to large markets which would enable them to sell their produce at better prices, said a press statement issued here Friday. He said exporting K-P’s agricultural commodities, particularly vegetables, to Gulf countries is among the FAO’s top priorities.

The Director General for Research at the Agricultural Research Institute, Dr Abdul Bari, said on the occasion that his organization would provide its expertise and train agricultural experts and farmers to improve the productivity of the agricultural sector.

The District Directors of Agriculture for Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand and Khyber also addressed the workshop while the FAO’s Senior Horticulture Expert, Mujib ur Rahman, Asghar Khan and Engineer Tahir held detailed discussions regarding their respective departments.
