ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) announced on Thursday its commitment to implementing transformative, eco-friendly projects aimed at enhancing the environmental landscape of the federal capital.

Among the ground-breaking initiatives are an automated car parking system, the introduction of electric buses, extensive tree-plantation drives, and the establishment of a citywide bicycle route network, collectively fostering a climate-friendly era of e-mobility in Islamabad. CDA spokesperson Nauman Khalid, in an interview with a private news channel, outlined the ambitious plans. He stated, “To address environmental concerns and reduce carbon emissions, we are introducing cycling and e-buses projects in the federal capital. A network of over 200 electric buses is set to grace the streets of Islamabad, offering citizens an eco-friendly mode of transportation, alleviating traffic congestion, and providing improved routes, thereby contributing to overall climate enhancement.”

Detailing the cycling project, Khalid emphasised, “The proposed cycling track is a significant undertaking, aiming to establish a secure citywide bicycle route network, ensuring safe and accessible cycling throughout Islamabad. This initiative is not only about promoting green transportation but also offers an equitable commuting option for our residents.”

The spokesperson further revealed that CDA is collaborating with banks to introduce an automated car parking system, addressing the longstanding parking challenges faced by the city. In response to concerns about green spaces, he stated, “In collaboration with universities, CDA has launched an extensive tree-plantation drive to augment the city’s green cover. Our goal is to engage citizens and educational institutions to preserve the natural beauty of Islamabad, a city conceived with the vision of being environmentally sustainable.”

Highlighting the importance of maintaining reclaimed land, Khalid emphasised, “CDA is committed to preventing the re-encroachment of retrieved land and increasing green spaces throughout the city through comprehensive tree-plantation efforts. It is not just about planting new trees; we are developing a strategy for the proper maintenance of existing trees to ensure their long-term health and safety.”
