RAWALPINDI:

Sadiqabad police Friday arrested nine persons, including the father of a groom, for allegedly opening fire at a raiding party, engaging in fireworks and aerial firing at a marriage ceremony.

A spokesperson for the police said the police recovered weapons from their custody and registered a case. The accused were identified as Muhammed Shehbaz, Muhammed Haris, Abdul Majid, Abdus Salam, Kashif Javed, Ijaz Ahmed, Naveed Ahmed, Farhan Ali and Qadir Khan, he added.

Operations SSP Kamran Asghar told The Express Tribune that there was a report of aerial firing and fireworks at a wedding ceremony in the limits of Sadiqabad police station. After which, the police reached the spot.

Instead of stopping the aerial firing, the accused started firing at the police party. Upon which, action was taken and nine accused including the groom's father were arrested.

The spokesperson further said the case against the suspects has been registered under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

SSP Kamran Asghar said aerial firing is a serious crime and the accused involved in the practice will not be pardoned under any circumstances.
