‘Robber’ hurt in gunfight, netted by police

Police signaled two motorcycle-riding suspects to stop instead accused allegedly opened fire on police

Ghulam Muhammad Abad police arrested an alleged robber in an injured condition while his accomplice escaped, taking advantage of the dark.

Police shifted the injured suspect to the hospital and registered a case against him as well as against the absconder.

SHO of Ghulam Mohammadabad Ali Ikram Goraya, along with his team, had set up a checkpoint on Sudhopora Road.

In the meantime, police signaled two motorcycle-riding suspects to stop.

Instead of stopping the motorcycle, the accused allegedly opened fire on the police party, two of the bullets hitting the bulletproof jacket of SHO Ghulam Mohammadabad. He miraculously survived. Police returned fire in self-defence.

Ali Raza, a resident of 220-RB Bauwala Jhang Road, wanted in a case of robbery and shooting, was injured during the police encounter that lasted 10 minutes.

Police allegedly seized a pistol and a motorcycle from the possession of the injured suspect.

Meanwhile, the district police have busted a five members dacoit gang. Police said that the criminals were wanted in more than 10 robbery cases.
