Lawyers booked for ‘torturing cops’

The accused were charged under anti-terrorism, attempted murder, abduction and other charges

An FIR has been registered against lawyers who allegedly tortured a DSP, abducted a police constable and damaged government property in Islampura.

The accused were charged under anti-terrorism, attempted murder, abduction and other charges on Sunday.

Reportedly, a large number of lawyers had gathered outside Civil Courts Lahore to celebrate victory in the Lahore Bar Elections.

They allegedly performed aerial firing, with stray bullets striking the metro bridge, government buildings and vehicles. Policemen were also present at the scene to maintain law and order and were allegedly tortured by the lawyers when they attempted to intervene.

The suspects reportedly tortured DSP Sarwar Awan and tore his uniform and also allegedly abducted police constable Shahid.

An FIR was registered upon the complaint of SHO Islampura Inspector Asim Jahangir in Islampura police station.

As many as 16 lawyers were nominated in the incident.
