They had the wrong idea: Agha Ali reveals many actresses' fiancés wouldn't let them work with him

Actor alleges that back in 2016-17, whenever he'd sign a project, the female lead would back off

Television actor Agha Ali recently appeared on Tabish Hashmi’s chat show, Hasna Mana Hai, and casually discussed his time in the showbiz, his experiences with “actresses’ boyfriends”, his decision to not take up films because of terrible scripts and underwhelming productions, as well as his “reputation” in the industry.

While discussing the actor’s “good looks”, the host recalled a time when actresses would allegedly refuse to work with him because their fiancés or husbands would have a problem. “Why was your reputation so bad?” quipped Hashmi. “No, no. Seriously. I heard you and the producers would also have a laugh about it,” remarked the host.

“Exactly around 2016-17, whenever I’d sign a drama, a few days before the shoot, I’d get a call from the producer asking me whether I have some issue with the heroine. I’d say I’ve never met her. Then they’d ask me whether I have a scuffle with their fiancé. I wouldn’t even know the fiancé so why would I have a scuffle? Then they’d tell me that he isn’t letting this actress work because of me. I’d ask why? ‘Because he’s scared,’ they’d say,” shared Agha, laughing.

The actor went on to allege that he had actually spoken to two of his co-stars’ fiancés to ask them what the problem was. “There was once this heroine, a very well-known actor, she had started dating this guy who was also an actor. And the producer of that drama was Humayun [Saeed] bhai. So, he asked me one day what was it that I did that made this guy so insecure?”

“And Humayun bhai was asking this…” quipped Hashmi, leaving Agha in fits. “But we had a good laugh about this,” continued the actor. “And I told him that if his production house was suffering because of me then I will step back, maybe sign a different drama.”

When asked, on a serious note, why this kept happening, Agha held, “See, I think, the characters you play, they form this… perception of you. And when I had newly started working, I didn’t attend any parties, I wouldn’t socialize and I would play these characters so people thought, that’s who I am. That’s the only image they had of me. That role I’d play onscreen.”

The actor then capped off, “Maybe they saw something special in me (speaking in Ali Zafar's voice)... but I think that no one should feel insecure because of anyone!”
