Renowned educator Syeda Anita Shah Lakyari passes away

HYDERABAD:

A notable columnist, anchor, and educationist Syeda Anita Shah Lakyari, who played a significant role as an educator at Sindh University Institute of Business Administration Jamshoro and contributed to the Sindh Revenue Department, passed away at the age of 49, in Hyderabad.

Suffering from Alzheimer, Lakyari had reportedly been in a deep state of despair following the tragic demise of her brother in an accident and the subsequent loss of her parents.

Having earned her Master of Business Administration and Master of Sociology degrees from Sindh University in 1998 and 2002, respectively, Lakyari further expanded her knowledge through a fellowship programme at the University of Maryland, USA, in 2007.

Known for her early initiation into column writing, she began contributing to Sindhi daily Kawish in 1994, primarily focusing on women's rights.

Lakyari's influence extended to the media industry, where she hosted talk shows on a Sindhi news television channel and worked as a reporter and producer for the Voice of America's Beyond headlines in 2007.

Notably, she served as a Section Officer in the Sindh government and later as Deputy Secretary in the Sindh Culture Department in 2001. In 2006, displaying her commitment to social causes, Lakyari established a non-governmental organisation dedicated to rural uplift.

Her final resting place is in the Wanki Wassi area graveyard in Hatri, Hyderabad, where her funeral prayers were offered in Qasimabad.
