ISLAMABAD:

An anti-terrorism court on Friday issued a summon for PTI founder Imran Khan in connection to the attack on General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on May 9, 2023.

The court proceedings, concerning the attacks on GHQ, the burning of images, and alleged incitement on May 9, 2023, involving the former prime minister, were presided over by Judge Malik Ijaz Asif at the Anti-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi.

Imran Khan has been specifically named as the primary accused in all cases related to the May 9 incidents.

The court has summoned Imran on January 9 regarding the charges against him in the cases.

It may be noted that earlier, after his release from Adiala Jail, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi was whisked away by Punjab police from prison in connection with a case pertaining to the attack on the GHQ.

The former foreign minister was initially moved to the Cantt police station by the police, who maltreated him and pushed him into a police vehicle stationed outside the jail. A video of the incident went viral on social and mainstream media.

In July last year, a high-level joint investigation team (JIT) probing incidents related to the May 9 violence had decided to nominate the former premier in two terrorism cases including an attack on the GHQ.

With the addition of new sections in the cases, the PTI chief was charged with plotting and incitement to violence.
