RAWALPINDI:

At least eight terrorists were killed in three separate encounters up and down the country, in which one soldier embraced martyrdom, the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the military, said in separate statements on Sunday.

The statement said that Naik Abdul Rauf, 31, from the Rahimyar Khan district, embraced martyrdom, while fighting gallantly against the terrorists, who had targeted a Pakistani border post in the general area of Spinwam, North Waziristan district, from inside Afghanistan overnight.

Tragically, Naik Abdul Rauf succumbed to his injuries, and embraced martyrdom during the exchange of fire, the ISPR said. In response, Pakistani troops retaliated effectively, causing considerable losses to the attackers,” it added.

In another incident, according to the ISPR, security forces detected the movement of three terrorists attempting to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the general area of Batwar, Bajaur district. After a fierce exchange of fire, the three terrorists were neutralised and a cache of arms was recovered.

“Pakistan has consistently urged the interim Afghan government to enhance border management on their side of the border,” the ISPR said, emphasising that Afghan Taliban must fulfil their obligations to prevent the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for carrying out acts of terrorism against Pakistan.

In a separate statement, the ISPR said that five terrorists were killed by security forces during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Mashkai area of Balochistan’s Awaran district. A hideout of the terrorists was also destroyed and a “cache of arms, ammunition and explosives was recovered”, it said.

According to the statement, a sanitisation operation was carried out to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area. “Security forces of Pakistan, in step with the nation, remain determined to thwart attempts of sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Balochistan,” the ISPR said.
