PTI candidate granted protective bail

Petitioner charged for aiding accused in May 9 case

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) granted protective bail to Ahmad Ali, a candidate for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) from PP-35 (Wazirabad), until January 8 and directed him to approach the relevant court.

On Thursday, the single bench comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi heard the petition for protective bail filed by the candidate. The petitioner submitted that police had registered a case against him on charges of facilitating accused involved in the riots on May 9th of this year.

Ali submitted that he had filed nomination papers to contest the upcoming general election from PP-35 (Wazirabad) and wanted to appear before the returning officer for scrutiny of his nomination papers, was fearful that police might arrest him. He pleaded with the court to grant protective bail to enable him to approach the relevant court.
