Four die in collision on Islamabad Expressway

Rescue officials say five injured; condition of four said to be critical

Four people died, and five sustained injuries after a car and motorbike collided on Islamabad Expressway on Monday.

According to Express News, the accident occurred near Dhok Kala Khan stop in Rawalpindi. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.

A spokesperson for 1122 informed that the bodies of the deceased were transferred to PIMS Hospital, adding that the condition of four of the injured was critical.

According to sources, two of the deceased people and all the injured belonged to the Christian community. The people in the car were also alleged to be in a state of intoxication.

On December 22, in 1,197 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) reported across all 37 districts of Punjab during 24 hours, at least 13 people had died, while 1,280 had sustained injuries.

Of the injured, 572 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 708 victims with minor injuries were treated on-site by rescue medical teams.

Majority of the crashes involved motorbikes. Further analysis showed those 696 drivers, 43 underage drivers, 162 pedestrians and 435 passengers were among the victims.
